Effective Date: April 23, 2026
SafeWalk (the "App") is a pedestrian safety utility. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle permissions and data.
1. Zero Data Collection Policy
SafeWalk does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
No personal identifiers (names, emails) are collected.
No data is shared with third parties or advertisers.
All processing is done locally on your device.
2. Detailed Permission Disclosures
To provide real-time protection, SafeWalk requires the following permissions:
Activity Recognition: We use this to detect when you are walking. This is the core trigger for the safety lock.
Device Administrator (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN): Used exclusively to invoke DevicePolicyManager.lockNow() to secure the screen when walking is detected.
Foreground Service & Health (FGS): The app runs a foreground service (indicated by a persistent notification) to ensure the motion sensors remain active even when the screen is off or another app is in use. The "Health" category is used as it relates to physical activity detection.
Post Notifications: Required to show the mandatory foreground service notification, allowing you to know that SafeWalk is currently protecting you.
Receive Boot Completed: Allows the app to restart its safety service automatically after you reboot your phone.
Request Ignore Battery Optimizations: Necessary to prevent the system from killing the app in the background, which would stop the walking detection and compromise your safety.
Vibrate & Wake Lock: Used to provide tactile feedback and ensure the system can process the motion data effectively during active use.
3. Safety and Security
Because SafeWalk does not use the internet to transmit data (No "INTERNET" permission used), your sensor data never leaves your device.
4. Target Audience
SafeWalk is intended for users aged 18 and over. Parents may choose to install this utility on their family members' devices to improve pedestrian safety.
