The current project list for the Friends of St Andrew's Church is below. If you can help, join our mailing list.
The primary need of the church is to ensure that there are sufficient funds to pay our costs. We hope to have various projects on the go to help fundraise and make the church more accessible. Currently we plan to open it on the first Sunday of each month from around 1pm - 4pm to tie in with the Gatton Park open days on the first Sunday of each month (and the church service on the same day at 5pm).
Basic costs per month approx. Insurance £260. Electricity £150.
Other costs that funds will go towards:
Professional Fees: electrical safety check annually / lightning conductor check annually / fire safety & extinguishers check annually / regular gutter cleaning / full building and fabric check every five years.
Beyond fundraising projects the church also needs some TLC. Some of the current project ideas are below. If you can help, then get in contact - please note that many of these projects will need to be helped on by people known to us within the wider Gatton community. Please do not offer services on a commercial basis unless asked for.
Maintenance Projects
dealing with the ivy / climber that is causing fabric damage (it's been dealt with many times, but it seems to be a real survivor)
churchyard tidying - including potentially gravestone cleaning (subject to church advice)
interior dusting / cleaning / woodwork maintenance (a vinegar and water mix is advised)
church organ repair / service (no-one is very sure when this was last done, and it needs it - that would enable musical fundraisers inside the building)
stonework repair (subject to architect and church advice)
altar rails repair / refitting
carpet reinvigourating or replacement (various pieces lie in the church)
lychgate - inspection and repair
churchyard benches replacement
churchyard gardening & path de-weeding
church noticeboard (near car park, near lychgate) repair / renewal
churchyard rear entrance (and path) set out more nicely (and a sign at the rear entrance).
