Graphic Organizers

The Power of Graphic Organizers

What can students do to help themselves understand and remember all the "stuff" the teacher expects them to learn?

Successful students know a variety of ways to organize information for learning.  Graphic Organizers are wonderful strategies to get  students actively involved in their learning and help students organize information. Because Graphic Organizers include both words and visual images, they are effective with a wide variety of learners, including ESL, gifted, and special-needs students. The more organized the material, the better remembered.

Graphic organizers are powerful ways to help students understand complex ideas. Drawings and diagrams engage visual learners; they show relationships, clarify concepts, and facilitate communication.

Graphic Organizers help students learn because:

1. The brain is a pattern detector.

2.Graphic organizers make visual the pattern of the content to be learned.

3. 80-90% of information received by the brain is through visual means.

4. People learn best when information is organized in chunks, groups, or clusters.

Below you will find a variety of graphic organizers to use in your classroom. Notice that we have "organized" the organizers.......
