Short Bio
Dr. Qiu's research focuses on novel low-dimensional materials for advanced electronics and quantum applications. His current research interest includes employing topological materials for topological quantum computing as well as cryo-electronics amalgamating the quantum-classical divide. He is a recipient of the Birck Williams Scholarship and Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship. He has authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal conference publications, and serves as a reviewer for over 10 journals and Session Chairs for the APS March Meeting.
Personal
Beyond research life, Prof. Qiu also enjoys running, working out, traveling and exploring the inspiring beauty of Nature with his wife Jingyi, daughter Rylynn, and their family dog Marley.

My name is Weideng Sun and I got Ph.D in physics from Tsinghua University in 2023. My research interest includes employing novel materials for cryogenic electronics and quantum devices as well as investigating spin transport characteristics of spintronic devices based on magnetoelectric coupling. Beyond research life, I enjoy taking a walk, traveling for beautiful landscape and playing badminton.

I am Chengyu Zhu and a PhD student in Electrical Engineering. I got my Bachelor and Master degree in Material Science and Engineering from ShanghaiTech University and Columbia University, respectively. I used to do some research about the electrochromic material and device, gas sensor and optical gain of quantum dots. In my daily life, I am interested in Kendo, hiking and watching Formula one racing.
Junghyun Koo

My name is Junghyun Koo, and I am a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea. Previously, I focused on wide-bandgap semiconductor growth. My current research interests include the fabrication of wide-bandgap power electronics. Outside of research, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, and cycling.

My name is Soren Villafane and I am an undergraduate computer engineering student. When I'm not in the lab or classroom, you'll find me on the slopes skiing or snowboarding, exploring trails on my mountain bike, or tinkering with my 3D printers. I'm also a member of the U of Minnesota's Formula SAE team and a passionate motorsport fan.
