Gamma Epsilon is a chapter of dynamic, radiant, and distinguished young women. Our leadership and dedication to sisterhood, scholarship, and service are evident through our work on our respective campuses, throughout the North Atlantic Region, and internationally.
The glorious and exemplary Gamma Epsilon Philadelphia City Chapter’s membership comprises five schools: Drexel University, La Salle University, Thomas Jefferson University - East Falls Campus, Saint Joseph’s University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

I am pleased to welcome you to the official website for the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Our new website features detailed chapter history, campus and community programming information, and efficient lines of communication with our chapter leadership.
Gamma Epsilon’s steadfast leadership, dedication to service, and excellence in scholarship are evident through our outreach services on campuses and in the community, participation in the North Atlantic Region’s administration, and facilitating international programs. Now in our 80th year, the Gamma Epsilon chapter continues to dedicate itself to upholding the core tenets of sisterhood, scholarship, and service in the name of our beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Gamma Epsilon consists of women who are our future doctors, lawyers, nurses, politicians, and so much more. They have been recognized for their artistic talents, civic engagement, and academic excellence while proving themselves worthy to uphold the traditions and professional acumen of Gamma Epsilon. These young women take pride in the trails that they blaze and set the standard high above the rest. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Gamma Epsilon Philadelphia City Chapter is now accepting applications for our annual Leona K. Baylor Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to support young women who demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to community service.
To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:
A minimum GPA of 3.0
At least one letter of recommendation
An official high school transcript
Evidence of leadership through extracurricular involvement
Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded. Recipients must submit proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university by September 30, 2026. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the award.

Three members of the Gamma Epsilon chapter, Maya Walton (left), Jai Smith (center) and Jya Marshall (right) were recognized and inducted into the 4.0 Club at the 95th North Atlantic Regional Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, the Lovely Ladies of the Gamma Epsilon Philadelphia City Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® proudly honored the chapter’s Charter Member, Marilouise Holland James, who helped charter Gamma Epsilon on June 24th 1945.
Marilouise Holland James attended Temple University, where she was originally initiated into the Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She later served the Philadelphia community as a dedicated school teacher. Today, she remains an esteemed Diamond Member of the Theta Pi Omega Chapter.
