Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA), an international service organization, was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is comprised of more than 380,000 initiated members in more than 1,096 graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 13 nations. Led by International President & CEO, Danette Anthony Reed of Dallas, Texas, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., often is hailed as “America’s premier Greek-letter organization for African American women.”

The Notable North Atlantic Region
The North Atlantic Region, led by Regional Director, Elicia Pegues Spearman Esquire, is the birthplace of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. The Notable North Atlantic Region is also the home of our incorporation five years later in 1913 and the flagship region that launched Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc., on a worldwide journey of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Nearly 117 years later, our sisterhood remains strong, united by a commitment to Service to All Mankind.
As Gamma Epsilon, we proudly carry this mission forward, embracing the call of International President and CEO Danette Anthony Reed to Soar to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood. Together, we will continue to propel Alpha Kappa Alpha higher and higher.

The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is to:
cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards,
to promote unity and friendship among college women,
to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve our social stature,
to maintain a progressive interest in college life,
and to be of "Service to all Mankind."
