In the case of these scams, a marketing platform called Mailer Lite was the victim of phishing attacks. Hackers took advantage of the fact that due to previous emails, victims were willing to accept and click links that were sent to them from the Mailer Lite platform. Unfortunately, these links led to wallet dumping websites, which ended up causing $600,000 in losses overall.

This attack was fairly recent, happening within the past few months. On December 12th, Rhysida ransom group managed to get a hold of 1.67 terabytes of data from the game developers Insomniac Games. They are most famous for creating the Spider-Man games, and are a major game studio involved with Sony. It's uncertain how they managed to get their hand on the data, but they held it for a ransom of roughly 2 million dollars. This data included the schedule of releases and projects up to 2035, and employee data too. Unfortunately, the ransom was never paid, so all of the data got released to the public.

Unfortunately, attacks like these are always unpredictable. They are easy to fall victim to and you should always be on the lookout just in case. In terms of preventing both phishing attacks and ransomware attacks, always make sure to verify the legitimacy of the links/files you get sent to you. This is the main way that your data gets accessed and stolen. Another thing you should be careful of is accessing unsecured Wi-Fi networks. There are some people who are capable of stealing all your information the moment you log onto a network thinking that it is safe, while it is actually a fake.
The best way to keep yourself updated and safe is by getting yourself trained in cybersecurity. This way you are knowledgeable about all of the ways others can get at you, and how you can protect yourself. This is my cybersecurity training certificate.
