■While conducting research on the ecology of deep-sea microorganisms at Hiroshima University, I began to think that I wanted to develop my own instruments for in situ analysis of microorganisms. Since then, I have been working on the development of in situ analyzers based on the microfluidic technology I encountered at the University of Tokyo. Currently affiliated with JAMSTEC and the University of Tokyo, I am conducting research and development towards realizing practical ocean observation tools by establishing multi-scale fluid technology that extends the scale of applied fluidics systems.
