Phillip Ashdown*
I am the creator of FTSE Value Finder. My professional career spans over 18 years in what the industry calls the buy-side and sell-side, working for Investment Banks, Asset Managers and Brokerage firms. During this time, my interest in markets and especially equities has remained high. My experience went through both the banking crise of 2008 and COVID in 2019, when markets crashed both times.
In 2025, I founded this website to continue to interest in equity markets, but also offer my skills for free and help amateur investors.
My degree in Business Economics and Finance has helped me understand how things work in life, like business and politics, and the impact they can have on our finances. I frequently watch the news and read the financial media, understanding it and piecing together.
I am an MBTI INTJ personality type who is logical, likes to plan , have structure in what I do and have world-class observation skills. These traits mean I can observe what I see and hear, apply logic and problem solve and make better decisions than most people. I feel that this is a reason why I have skills at making money. My IQ has been assessed by Mensa and verified at 130+, so I am certainly not stupid either.
*I will get a decent picture of me in my suit soon. 😆
"The best thing I did was to choose the right heroes."
The people who inspire me tend to be business people. Big influences include tech people like Elon Musk (another INTJ), Theo Paphitis (ESTJ) from Dragons' Den, entrepreneurs like Sir Richard Branson (ENTP), founder of Virgin, Sir Alan Sugar (ESTJ) of the Apprentice, and investors like Warren Buffett (ISTJ).
Please note that these MBTI values are estimates, but notice they are all thinking types (T).
Take Warren Buffett, who is an ISTJ. OK, he is worth a lot more than me, but I like his style. Having similar IxTJ personality traits, we are very similar, sharing our 'TJ' traits, meaning we are both logical, prefer objective thinking, goal-orientated, structured and are analytical. This obviously means nothing if my tips are bad, but I like to think my mindset and experience means I hope to do well on this site.
Here are some Warren Buffett emotion quotes I really admire and suggest you think hard about:
"If you cannot control your emotions, you cannot control your money"
"The key to success is emotional stability"
"Emotional makeup is more important than technical skill"
Dyslexia
I am a dyslexic who fights the stigma and assumption that dyslexia is a disadvantage when I argue dyslexia to be a superpower when used correctly, with this site being an example. My creativity and ability to spot patterns is genuinely of an elite-level standard.
Dyslexia has many benefits, and especially in problem-solving, which is a useful skill in investing.
IQ and EQ
In 2025, I was assessed and allowed to join the International High IQ Society and scored within the top 3% of the global population so I am a proven smart guy when it comes to IQ and have the cognative abilities of a very intellligent person.
My problem-solving, logic, reasoning and pattern spotting skills are excellent and will be useful in investing.
I also rate my EQ, in helping and caring for others.
People who know me well, see me as a caring person, who wants to see others do well and help. I am a visionary with a very "glass half-full" mindset. This site is intended to help and hope to use my analytical skills to find reader's value, reduce risk and make a profit.
