Parking Permit
Parking permits can be issued and are valid overnight in the upper levels of the Shaw Lane Parking (Ramp #1 = Lot 51). To purchase a parking permit, please call the Parking Office and inform the phone attendant you are on the Frontiers Summer School list (and/or the CeNAM Frontiers list if you are attending both events). At the time you call, you will need the VALID state-issued vehicle registration information, your credit card, and internet access to complete the transaction. Parking Office: +1 517-355-8440, 8 am - 4 pm, Monday – Friday (closed University holidays).
In case you plan to have a rental car, please e-mail Casey Hulbert to work with you for issuing a parking permit.
Pay-by-plate parking
Pay-by-plate parking is available at the following locations:
Shaw Lane Parking Ramp (Ramp #1 = Lot 51), lower level, no parking 2 am-6 am, payment required 6 am-6 pm, Monday – Friday (closest to the FRIB Laboratory).
Wharton Parking Ramp (Ramp #3 = Lot 19), no parking 2 am-6 am, payment required 6 am-10 pm, Monday – Friday.
Lot 39 no parking 2 am-6 am, payment required 6 am-10 pm, Monday – Friday.
Grand River Parking Ramp (Ramp #6 = Lot 103), lower level, no parking 2 am-6 am, payment required 6 am-6 pm, Monday – Friday.
You must park in a space designated as a pay-by-plate parking space. Signage has been installed in these areas. Parking spaces not marked as pay by plate may be reserved for permit parking. Parking in a space not designated as pay-by-plate parking may result in a parking violation. Immediately after parking, enter the license plate number and payment into the lot’s pay station or via the MSU Spot On mobile app. Pay stations accept cash payments or credit cards. They do not give change back nor are refunds issued for time paid for but not used. Unused parking time in one lot may not be used in another lot. Parking is only valid for the lot paid. If you move to another lot, payment is required again in the lot that you move to.
How does it work?
The “multi-space” meter is a pay station kiosk designed for quick, easy parking. The machine accepts multiple forms of payment, including cash, coins, and credit cards.
With pay-by-plate parking, you have the option to print a receipt after you pay. However, you do NOT need to return to your vehicle to display the receipt on your dashboard.
PLEASE NOTE: THE PAY STATION KIOSKS DO NOT PROVIDE CHANGE. If you are not paying with a credit card, or via the Spot On mobile payment app, please use the exact change.
Mobile Payment App
A new payment alternative for pay-by-plate parking is available with the MSU Parking Spot On app. The iOS and Android application (available web apps for other mobile platforms) allow you to pay for a parking session fast and easily. For parking sessions initiated with the app, you can also extend your parking session if you need more time without returning to the parking lot. Check out the Spot-On website for additional information. *PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A $0.30 CONVENIENCE FEE APPLIED TO EACH ‘SPOT ON’ TRANSACTION.
