Field Study 2 (Participation and Teaching Assistantship) provides me with a lot of experiences in the teaching field. This course allowed me to possess the professional competencies and personal qualities of a great, efficient, and effective forthcoming educator.
In this course, we make a traditional and authentic assessment in the classroom, prepare and utilize instructional materials, grade and reporting, demonstrate teaching, and the like. Through this course, I realized that handling various types of learners is challenging yet fulfilling in the end. As I was teaching and observing the learners, I've come up with a lot of realizations. First, I realized that learners have different behaviors and personalities. As teachers, we need to study and learn their behaviors so that we will know how to handle them. Second, learners are full of questions. Sometimes, in the middle of the discussion, they will ask a lot of questions out of their curiosity. As teachers, we need to be prepared and knowledgeable about all of these things so that we can answer their unending questions. And the last, I realized that learners are keen observers. As leaders and educators, we should not practice favoritism. Learners can feel when the teacher has favoritism. As a result, they will no longer have the appetite in participating in the class and they will not enjoy learning. Therefore, as teachers, we should treat them nicely and fairly.
With regards to preparing assessments in the classroom and utilizing instructional materials, I've learned that these should be simple yet complete. It should be aligned to the learning competencies and the content should be appropriate to the grade level of learners. As to the grading and reporting, teachers should be honest in putting and computing grades. The teacher should not make additional points just to present to the principal or in a higher position that the learners have higher grades. It should not be. The teacher should be honest because the grades will reflect whether learners really understood the concepts or it really need further explanation and discussion.
Overall, this course had a great impact on my life as a future educator. I was trained and developed in this field study course. I gain not just knowledge, but I got to enhance my skills and boost my confidence in teaching. And if I will rate this course out of 10, I would say more than 10 because of its great contribution of it to my life.
