The students of FMA (Fruitful Minds Academy) will learn by doing. Instead of iReady or WVGSA state testing, students will have portfolios showing grade level competency submitted to the board office. Instead of taking AR tests, students will read what interests them for the love of reading or to gain knowledge!
Hearts and minds will be nurtured by weaving Christian values and the fruits of the spirit into daily learning.
Every child gets personalized attention, support, and space to grow. Because Fruitful Minds Academy is a classroom for mixed ages (1st-5th), it teaches real world social skills. Older students reinforce their knowledge by helping younger ones, while younger students get peer models to look up to. Everyone grows in confidence and leadership.
Students will dive deep into West Virginia history and the U.S. Constitution so they can understand their heritage, their rights, and their role as informed citizens. I will go beyond the basics to teach students how to think critically, ask questions, and engage with the world around them.
Learning will focus on creativity, exploration, and real-world thinking. Students can apply what they learn in meaningful ways. Do they want to take apart a computer and put it back together? Do they want to build a house out of sticks? Do they want to paint portraits? Do they want to design and make clothes? Do they want to write novels? Do they like making music? All interests are welcome at Fruitful Minds Academy!
Lessons will be tailored to student interests and developmental needs. WV grade level standards will be taught in the way students need. (The bottom of this page lists standards by grade level.) Each student will have a specific learning plan called an APPLE Plan.
