Hi! I'm Lindsay DeWees. I'm the wife to Sergeant Ben DeWees at the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, and a mommy to my sweet & smart son, Kai. I've been a teacher for 10 years. It's what I've always wanted to do. Throughout my time as both a student and a teacher, I've seen a continuous shift in education. While some students thrive in a public school environment- with all of the testing and screen usage it entails- others need a different approach. I have a strong desire to shake things up! I want to create a school where students can explore what interests them. A school where children will be learning through play, projects, and genuine exploration. A school where children learn real world skills with a biblical lens. When I'm not teaching, I'm doing my other favorite things- reading, coloring, or watching anime!
As I thought about creating a microschool, I knew I would want the name to reflect my hope that every student's mind will grow strong and wise. Inspired by Galatians 5:22-23, Fruitful Minds will nurture not just academic success, but hearts full of the fruits of the Spirit. Just like trees grow fruits to show us what kind of tree they are, we as people grow fruits to let others know what kind of people we are. If a person has Jesus in their heart, they will naturally start to produce the "Fruits of the Spirit"- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.
The logo I created represents both learning and growth, a traditional symbol of education. The dripping icing reflects the fun, creative atmosphere and sweet, inviting classroom style.
