FROST — Privacy Policy

OVERVIEW
This Privacy Policy explains how the FROST app ("FROST", "we", "us") handles your information. FROST is a cold-exposure tracker with an optional AI coach. We built FROST to be private by default: it has no user accounts, no analytics tracking, and no server of our own. Your session log stays on your device.
THE SHORT VERSION
- Your data (sessions, streaks, settings, notes) is stored only on your device.
- We do not have a server and we do not collect, sell, or share your personal data.
- The only time information leaves your device is when you choose to use the AI Coach. Then the information needed to answer is sent directly from your device to Anthropic, our AI provider, to generate a reply.
- You can use the entire app, including the timer, logging, streaks, and stats, without ever using the AI Coach and without any data leaving your device.
DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
FROST stores the following locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage:
- Your cold-exposure sessions (type, duration, water temperature, date, mood, optional notes).
- Your streaks and statistics, which are calculated on your device.
- Your preferences (units, theme, notification settings, and the profile details you enter during setup, such as a name or nickname, experience level, and goals).
This data is not transmitted to us and is not backed up to any cloud by FROST. If you delete the app, this data is removed from your device.
DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT
- We do not require or offer an account or sign-in.
- We do not operate a backend server that stores your data.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, precise location, or health data.
THE AI COACH AND ANTHROPIC (THIRD-PARTY PROCESSING)
The AI Coach is optional. When you ask the coach a question or request a debrief, FROST sends a request directly from your device over an encrypted connection to Anthropic, PBC (the company behind the Claude AI models, api.anthropic.com).
- What is sent: the information needed to generate a helpful response — for example, summaries of your cold-exposure sessions (durations, temperatures, dates, streaks, moods), the goals and experience level you set during setup, and the messages you type to the coach.
- Please avoid typing sensitive personal information into coach messages or notes you send to the coach, since that text is transmitted to Anthropic to produce a reply.
- Anthropic processes this information to return a response. According to Anthropic, data submitted through its API is not used to train its models by default. Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by Anthropic's own privacy policy and terms, available at anthropic.com.
- If you never use the AI Coach, no session data is transmitted off your device.
YOUR AI API KEY
FROST can use a built-in connection to the AI provider, or you may provide your own Anthropic API key. If you enter your own key, it is stored securely in the device Keychain and is never sent anywhere except directly to Anthropic when you use the coach. Your key is never included in any backup or export file.
PURCHASES
FROST Pro is sold as an in-app purchase and subscription processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles all payment information. FROST does not receive or store your payment details. Purchase and subscription status is managed by Apple's StoreKit on your device.
NOTIFICATIONS
If you enable reminders, notifications are scheduled locally on your device. They are off by default and do not involve any server.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
FROST is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
- You can use FROST without the AI Coach, in which case no data leaves your device.
- You can edit or delete your sessions at any time within the app.
- You can delete all FROST data by removing the app from your device, or by using the reset option in Settings.
- You can export a local backup of your own data from within the app (Pro feature). This file is created on your device and shared only where you choose to send it.
DATA SECURITY
Your data is stored on your device and protected by your device's security. Any data sent to Anthropic for the AI Coach is transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connection.
INTERNATIONAL USERS
Because the AI Coach sends requests to Anthropic, that information may be processed on servers located in the United States or other countries. By using the AI Coach, you consent to this processing as described in this policy and in Anthropic's privacy policy.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
