I was born and raised 15 minutes away from the center of Syracuse University's campus and because of this I had always dreamed of going to SU. I mean as a little kid, I only colored with the orange and blue crayons. I had season football tickets. I bleed orange!
My dream came into question when I was contacted by the head of Virginia Tech's Sports Media and Analytics program and he told me that he had seen The NorthStar Network and wanted to convince me to choose Virginia Tech over Syracuse. This left me with a massive decision to make between two win win options...
Virginia Tech seems like the perfect fit for me. It is warm for most of the year and it is still a big school, which I desire. Another huge benefit is that they allow their students to broadcast for all four years that they attend. The only real downside to attending Virginia Tech is that it is nine hours away from my family and friends and I'll have to do my own laundry.
The pull Syracuse has in the Broadcasting world is massive. The Newhouse School of Communications is nationally known as the best program for Sports Communication and Sports Analytics. There are two major downsides to Syracuse, however. The first being, the extremely high price of tuition and the second being, they only let their junior and senior year broadcasters commentate games.
After plenty of discussions with my parents, I decided that I will be spending my next four years as a "Hokie" at Virginia Polytechnic Institution and State University a/k/a Virginia Tech. One big goal I have while I am there is to win the Jim Nantz Award. This honor is given to the most outstanding collegiate broadcaster in the nation. Although it seems like a tall task to achieve, I'm prepared to give it my all in order to achieve this goal. After college, I plan to work my way up the ranks and one day become a well known professional play-by-play broadcaster/sports analyst in the industry. After years of growth with technology in so many aspects of my life it has led me to Virginia Tech, so I guess you could say that is how I went From tech to Tech.
