FROM GAMES TO GAMERS:

POACHERS OF DIGITAL REALMS

The TIL Texte-Image-Langage research centre and the MA Multimedia Translation (T2M) team at the University of Burgundy are pleased to invite you to a symposium with the theme "From Games to Gamers: Poachers of the Digital Realms" on Friday, 19 November and Saturday, 20 November 2021. It will be focused on the reception and appropriation of videogames by gamers. Be sure to check the Friday 19/11 and the Saturday 20/11 pages to be sure to have all the information about the event!

The first day of the symposium will be held in English on Friday 19/11/21 and will involve a mixture of traditional academic presentations, and round table discussions , designed to promote exchage between researchers, game industry practitioners, other professionals involved with gamers and fan culture and, of course, gamers themselves.

The second day of the symposium will be held on Saturday 20/11/21 in an off-campus cultural space and (to facilitate exchange with a broader audience) mostly in French. It will involve interactive sessions including retrogaming demonstrations, fan tattoos and a LocJam (game localisation competition) open to students from participating universities.

The event is designed to be accessible to a mixed, cross-disciplinary audience participating both in person and online. It is open to all researchers, practitioners, students and interested members of the public. Like other events organised by our team over the last few years, the symposium aims to bring together perspectives from academic research and professional practice in a range of fields including game studies, localisation studies and intercultural studies, with a combination of conference-style papers and round table discussions. Please see the program page for more information on how the day will be organised.

Registration is free but compulsory, using the following links:

Unless further measures are announced by the University or the French government, you should be able to attend to this year's symposium physically or remotely. To attend to the symposium on-site, a "pass sanitaire" will be required. If the situation changes, registrations for onsite attendance will be converted automatically into online attendance.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact localisationdijon@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!
