The developer has proposed a three-house subdivision in one of the most scenic and historic natural areas of the Historic Route 146 Corridor. It stretches from the “crabbing hole” west to one of the original Leete farmhouses, a now derelict 1700s white saltbox colonial which the same owner has allowed to deteriorate, possibly beyond repair. This land faces the old salt marsh hay field, now an important estuary and landing place for migrating birds, a place of great beauty and exceptional serenity. The road is already unsafe and is part of a $1 million Connecticut Department of Transportation Strategic Study to consider the best way to manage and sustain the important environmental, scenic, recreational and community safety priorities of what is one of only two designated State historic and scenic roadways in Connecticut.
