Experiential Learning and Excursions.

Experiential Learning and Excursions are the heart of the freshman seminar experience. The concept is for students to see the world as their classroom. Through experiential learning students will engage with concepts learned in the text, in real life. This will allow for immersive learning outside the classroom.  Experiential learners have been known to develop increased self-awareness, motivation, and confidence, and transferable skills. These experiences exist outside of the classroom but are equally challenging and gratifying. The incorporation of excursions into the seminar is to challenge students to apply what they are learning.  This means thinking outside of the confines of their majors and exploring through a prism of freedom, become acquainted with the higher learning landscape at Howard University, and be immersed into the culture of Chocolate City and the Greater Washington D.C. metro community.
