Experiential Learning Assignment: Tout of HU Campus (Due Sept, 1)

Time to explore The Hilltop! You are required to take 2 pictures of 2 different buildings (you should be in the picture) and write one thing you learned about each of the buildings. If you take a photo of a building named after someone significant, find a picture of them online and include it in your write up. You should explore the buildings on your own, research the buildings, or you can complete an HU campus tour. This does not include the online virtual campus tour. We expect you to get out and walk around to experience and learn about your campus. The buildings cannot be dorms, student centers, or cafeterias.

A special issue from the American Chemical Society published in Anal. Chem. and Biochemistry (August 22, 2022) honoring Dr. Marie Daly.

Celebrating the Life and Science of Dr. Marie Daly: The First African American Woman to Earn Her Ph.D. in Chemistry in the United States 

Dr. Daly held an academic appointment at Howard University for two years, from 1947 to 1948.

"Overcoming the dual hurdles of racial and gender bias, Marie Maynard Daly (1921–2003) conducted important studies on cholesterol, sugars, and proteins. In addition to her research, she was committed to developing programs to increase the enrollment of minority students in medical school and graduate science programs...."

"From 1947-1948, she taught physical science at Howard University in Washington D.C., and in 1948 won a prestigious grant from the American Cancer Society for a seven-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Rockefeller Institute of Medicine. There she worked with Alfred Mirsky, a pioneer in the field of microbiology, studying the composition and metabolism in the cell nucleus."
