Homework 30%
Most of your homework will be completed on the Portails platform. You must purchase a digital access code to complete your assignments. I will drop your five lowest homework activities. Late work will be accepted up to five days late for a 20% grade deduction per day.
Unit Exams 20%
There will be four exams during the semester (units 1-4). All exams will take place on the Canvas platform. Each test provides an opportunity to demonstrate how well you understand the basic structure of the language and will include listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and/or writing. You will have a four day window to complete each exam. If you miss your exam, you will receive a zero. NOTE: there are NO make-ups for missed tests.
Discussion Board 20%
There will be 4-5 discussion board posts during the semester. These will be a combination of cultural and conceptional topics. This is a chance for you to interact with your classmates and practice using what you are learning in the course. As such, you will want to show that you are actively engaging with your peers.
Oral Communication Assignments 20%
In order to learn to speak another language, it's important to practice with others. During the course of the semester, you will participate in both asynchronous (recorded) and synchronous (real -time) speaking activities.
Final Exam 10%
Your final exam in this course is cumulative and will cover units 1-5. There will be multiple listening components to the final exam. The final will take place during final exam week, and you will have a three day window to complete the final. Check the calendar for specfic dates.
