We are a club sport, meaning we are separate from the UHSAA. We are also a 501(c)(3) organization, which means that we are an entirely volunteer-run team. Our coaches aren't paid and ride for the love of the sport. We are also one of the few teams in the region without team fees. Because of this, we are wholeheartedly and completely indebted to our sponsors.
We represent NICA's 5 core principles of Fun, Inclusivity, Equity, Respect & Community. We empower youth and hope to foster a life-long love for cycling.
We currently have 77 riders. In 2024 we took 3rd place in regions and won 3rd place for the team volunteer award.
We are also members of the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah and the Eden Trails Foundation.
The Utah High School Cycling League had its inaugural season in 2012. Cory Clawson (Fremont), Jody Harris (Weber), and Dave Yngsdal heard that a high school league was forming and individually contacted the league to inquire about organizing a team. Because they only expected to attract a small number of riders that first year, they were encouraged to create a composite team which they named G3NERATIONS. It was made up of riders from Fremont, Weber, and Roy high schools. Using a 3 instead of an E in the name was a nod to the 3 schools that it comprised.
Fremont ended up having 7 riders that first season. Since at least 6 riders from one school were needed to be eligible to ride as an independent school rather than a composite, we were able to race as "Fremont" in that first season, even though all riders wore the G3NERATIONS jersey. There were 3 races in that first season and a State Championship, which everyone qualified for. Utah had over 350 riders that year which was the largest first year league in NICA history.
In 2013, Dave Yngsdal became the first official head coach of the Fremont team. This year, we added our first 3 female riders. We continued to practice and share a race day pit zone with Weber, Roy and now Bonneville riders, but Fremont and Weber had their own school kits. Roy and Bonneville combined to race as the Weber County Composite team. We used a barrowed tent (one!), coolers, and chairs and were proud to at least have a banner to hang on the tent identifying us as Fremont.
In 2014, Fremont formally separated from Weber, Roy, and Bonneville, and we were fully on our own. We also started getting more visibility at Fremont and had our first FHS faculty member coach, Blake Bockholt and our first Junior Devo rider, Kaison Achter.
In 2015, Abbi Clawson and Christian Yngsdal qualified as our first female and male varsity riders. We also added our first 2 female coaches, JoAnn Yngsdal and Donette Crayton and coaches Jeremy Achter and Jared Jensen, both of whom would become key, long-standing contributors to the team.
In 2016, we grew to 11 assistant coaches and 35 riders, including our first Elevate rider, Andrew Veldhuizen.
Over the next few years, numbers continued to grow rapidly - averaging about a 50% increase per year. We started receiving more sponsorship money allowing us to purchase a team trailer, tents, benches, coolers, and other gear.
In 2020, we took 1st place in 3 of the 4 races and won 1st place in the region championship. However, this was bitter-sweet because being the COVID season, there were no podium award ceremonies at the races, and we were denied "podium moments" of celebration.
By 2024, we grew to over 100 riders. That same year, Westfield High School was built, and we split to represent our individual schools. We are proud to have riders return as coaches after graduation, coaches that continue to ride after their kids have aged out, and that being a part of this team has been such a positive experience for the riders and an "entire family" activity for so many.
