You are able to pre-ride the course the night before each race. typically between 3pm and 7pm (or before sunset). You are required to have a pre-ride plate. You are responsible for keeping your pre-ride plates.
Please arrive 90 minutes before you are scheduled to race. You will need time for traffic, to walk to the venue, warm up, and be at staging (near the start) 20 minutes prior to your event. Pay attention to the race schedules and start times. Find your call-up position, and write your call-up number on your arm with a sharpie. Your call-up number for the following race will depend on where you finish in the previous race.
Race plates will be available at the races on race day. They will be in two organizers, one for Junior Devo and one for High School riders. The race plate with the chip goes on the front of your bike. The other race plate will be pinned to the side of your jersey.. Twist ties and pins will be available at the race. These will need to be returned after each race.
You are not allowed to ride your bike in the pit zone (the area where all the team tents are set up). In all other areas, you MUST be wearing a helmet any time your leg is over the bar of your bike. Ear buds or music of any kind are not permitted while riding. There are team penalties for not following these league rules.
Remember during the race, the only place that a rider can get food or water is in the feed zone. There will be a time penalty if you hand anything to a rider or help in any way while they are on the course.
If you have a mechanical issue during the race, try to fix it yourself. There is a 5 minute penalty if you receive assistance. Even if someone hands you a tool, it is considered assistance. As a bystander, you can give instructions, but please do not physically help unless asked to do so. You will need to report any assistance to the course marshal at the end of the race. Sometimes it will already be reported, but we need to be honest.
Parents, please plan on volunteering for the team on race day when you are able. You are also required to volunteer for the league at least once during the season. At the end of the season, the teams with the most volunteer hours for the league are awarded money. This helps our team tremendously.
Make sure you drink plenty of water, eat healthy, and get adequate sleep during the season. and especially the week of the race. It might also be helpful to drink some electrolytes on race weeks to help avoid cramping.
This will be an all-day event for most families. We will provide lunch and snacks and ask that families provide side dishes. Lunch will be around 11:30am-1pm. Please sign up for exactly how many will be eating with the team. We do not want to waste food. Water and Gatorade will also be provided.
