We are now open in our new unit in The Galleria (ground floor opposite our old unit). We look forward to seeing you there!
Free Books Hatfield is an independent book rehoming charity located within The Galleria in Hatfield. Our aims are to prevent books going to landfill and promote reading in the community.
You can find us on the lower storey next to ProCook.
We are open Monday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm, including most bank holidays. We are closed annually between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Since December 2016, we have rehomed over 460,000 books!
All our books have been donated to us by the general public, schools, and organizations. If you have some books which you would like to donate please visit our donations page.
You can take up to 8 books for free per visit per person.
Teachers and other educators who would like to take more books than the general allowance can apply for a bibliophile card, which allows the holder to take additional books for educational purposes.
We can also arrange for free school visits at our shop. These need to be requested in advance via email.
We hold a weekly children's story hour on Thursdays at 1pm in our Children's Corner. This is free to attend but parents must stay during the session.
Free Books Hatfield is run and led entirely by volunteers.
For volunteering opportunities, please visit our volunteering page.
We are a registered charity number 1167923. You can find more information on that in the Charity Commission's website.
