Bioacoustics and Ecology of marine environments

Researcher, UMR MARBEC

Université de Montpellier-CNRS-IFREMER-IRD,

Sète, France

I am an eco-acoustician at the MARine Biodiversity, Exploitation & Conservation (MARBEC) unit of the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD) in Sète since October 2022. My research originally aimed to investigate social behaviour in fishes with a particular focus on acoustic communication. After a master degree in ethology at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), I obtained my PhD in 2011 at the University of Saint-Étienne (France) studying acoustic communication in a cichlid fish. I then completed various post-doctoral stays in Belgium, French Polynesia and Guadeloupe to study underwater acoustics, from the mechanisms of sound production and audition in fishes, to behaviour and how passive acoustic monitoring  and ecoacoustics can help in the conservation of wild populations and support conservation plans in the marine environment.
