Dubbed a varsity Sport for the Mind,™ the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) combines the excitement of sports with the rigors of science and technology.
Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of high school students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program a robot to go head to head against a field of competitors. It's as close to real world" engineering as a student can get!
There are currently 49 FIRST® Robotics Competition teams registered to compete at the 2026 Buckeye Regional. The participating teams represent four midwestern and southern states, as well as the Republics of Poland and Türkiye. The mission of FIRST® is to inspire today's young people to become the science and technology leaders and innovators of tomorrow. This is accomplished by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities, including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
FIRST® Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. Teams have 6 weeks to design, build, and program a 100 lb. semi-autonomous robot. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.
A suitable meeting place to design and build an industrial-sized robot with access to a variety of machine shop power tools
A standard kit of parts and a common set of rules issued by FIRST®

Annual fees for team registration, a robot kit of parts, and event participation are $5,000 – $6,000. Additional costs for travel, food, team shirts, and other optional items will vary.
