One day, a long time ago, the leader of a rare legendary family of wandering stuffed animal-like snakes, Jake, was looking for a new home. After searching for what seemed like forever, he found it—hidden within the walls of Central Catholic High School. Little did the students know that Jake had made his way into the building through an ancient, secret tunnel and decided that this was where he belonged. He immediately sent word to his family and they began to move in.
As the snakes settled in, students often heard strange noises coming from the walls. Many of them thought, “Man, these pipes are weird!” But they would immediately dismiss it with “Oh well, that’s normal. It's an old school.”
One day, right before robotics practice, a boy named Chuck entered a bathroom stall. To his surprise, he found Jake wrapped around the rail on the wall. He screamed, “AHHH!!! A SNAKE!!! Then Jake spoke. No one really knows the conversion that took place. But legend says that when the dust settled, Jake, the leader of the snakes, had befriended Chuck and wanted to support his friend and the robotics team. Moved by the support of his new friend, Chuck asked the team if they would make Jake the mascot of the robotics team. He introduced them to Jake and everyone got along. After that day, Jake became known as Jake the Iron Snake.
As the years passed, Jake began to grow older. Chuck, now an alumni, would visit Jake and mentor the team. One day, while looking at Chuck, Jake said, “I’m so worried about my family. Will they be okay without me?”
Chuck, now much older himself, smiled warmly at his old friend and said, “Jake the Iron Snake, all your family will henceforth be known as Jake. They will be welcomed and cared for as long as the Iron Fangs stand. Don’t worry. Me and the future generations of this team will take care of your family. Our friendship will never end, no matter what. Once an Iron Fang, always an Iron Fang!”
With a contented smile, Jake rested his head and said, “Thank you, you are a true friend.” And with that, Jake passed away peacefully.
Soon after, the rest of the Jakes emerged from the walls. They were happy to be accepted so warmly and have a new home with Chuck and the Iron Fangs 5986. To show their gratitude, they support and bring us joy. You can find them in the workshop and at every competition.
Okay, as fun of a story that is, the truth is... Jake is named after our teammate Jake Castillo '26. One random day in February of 2024, one of the guys looked at the stuffed snakes looked and Jake and proclaimed, "Jake the Snake!" After that it was set, the snakes were all then called "Jake." While various snakes of sizes and colors (though primarily blue) have always been our mascot, we never really named them until that day. So from now on, all our snakes are Jake.
