The essential question directs the course of student learning. Essential questions are powerful, directive and commit students to the process of critical thinking through inquiry. Ultimately, the answer to the essential question will require that students craft a response that involves knowledge construction.
Goal setting encourages students to take ownership of their work. Goal setting also encourages the students to plan for their success and analyze their results.
A student's ability to ask good questions is a great way to help them to focus on the core content. Students would have to be intentional with their purpose.
