The essential question directs the course of student learning. Essential questions are powerful, directive and commit students to the process of critical thinking through inquiry. Ultimately, the answer to the essential question will require that students craft a response that involves knowledge construction.

- Develop unit plans that are interesting to students and that include standards, EQs, a summative performance task, daily learning tasks and appropriate resources.
- Develop lesson plans that will reflect clear standards, learning targets and activities.
- Complete daily lesson plans that utilize the Inquiry process (i.e. Essential Questions, wonderings, investigation, asking questions, researching, collaborating a d flexibility with risk taking.

- Tell you the standard they are learning and clear learning targets in their OWN words.
- Establish academic and personal goals.
- Tell you how the learning activities are helping them learn the goals of the standard and the real-world application of what they should know and be able to do.
- Pose, create and respond to specific questions(s) by making comments that contribute to the discussion and elaborate on the remarks of others.
- Talk more than their teacher.
Goal setting encourages students to take ownership of their work. Goal setting also encourages the students to plan for their success and analyze their results.
A student's ability to ask good questions is a great way to help them to focus on the core content. Students would have to be intentional with their purpose.
Accountable talk that is meaningful, respectful and mutually beneficial to both speaker and listener. Accountable Talk stimulates higher-order thinking— helping students to learn, reflect on their learning, and communicate their knowledge and understanding.
