Frames: Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2026
Summary
- Your videos stay on your device. Frame extraction and AI Smart Pick run on your iPhone or iPad.
- The AI photo tools are optional. A photo leaves your device only when you use one of them, and the first time you use each tool, Frames asks your permission first.
- There are no accounts, analytics trackers, advertising or data brokers. Your photos are never sold, never used for advertising and never used to train AI models.
What Frames handles
Frames does not collect your name, email address, contacts or location.
It handles:
- **A random app ID**, created on your device, for purchases and credits.
- **Photos you choose to send to an AI tool**, for a limited time (see below).
- **Subscription and purchase information.**
- **Optional feedback** you give about a result (a "love it" or "could be better" answer).
- **Crash reports**, if you share them with developers through iOS.
Videos and AI Smart Pick
Imported videos are processed on your device. They are never uploaded and never shared. AI Smart Pick analyzes frames on the device too, and nothing is sent anywhere for it.
The AI photo tools
These tools send photos to our server over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and from there to the AI services that do the work:
| Tool | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Enhance (and AI remaster) | The photo you enhance |
| Fix a face | Your photo, a clear photo of the person, and which face to fix |
| Remove | The photo, and the areas you marked |
| Styles | One to three photos of you, and the style you picked |
| Try on | A photo of you and a photo of the clothes |
| Put me in | The photo to add yourself to, a photo of you, and where the faces are in it (see below) |
Every photo you send, and every result, is checked for prohibited content. Photos that fail the check are refused.
Results made by AI are labelled as AI-made in the app and in the photos you save.
**Photos of other people:** only send photos of yourself, or of people who have agreed to it.
Face data
Frames uses Apple's Vision framework to find faces. It does not use Face ID, the TrueDepth camera or ARKit. It does not recognize or identify anyone, and it does not create face templates or any other biometric data.
- **On your device only:** AI Smart Pick and the photo tools detect faces to pick the best frames (for example, ones with open eyes) and to check your photos. This never leaves your device and isn't saved. The only exception is a face count and a clarity score, kept with each saved result until you delete it.
- **Sent only when you use Fix a face or Put me in:** the positions of the faces in that photo (rectangles, with no image or facial features), so the AI edits the right face or keeps everyone else unchanged. They go to our server, and with the photos to the AI service that makes the result: OpenAI for Fix a face, Anthropic and Black Forest Labs for Put me in. They are used only for that result, and never sold or used for tracking, advertising or training.
- **Retention:** our server deletes them when your result is downloaded, or within 24 hours, and never writes them to logs. OpenAI and Anthropic delete API data within 30 days. Black Forest Labs keeps it for as long as is reasonably necessary to provide its service (see its privacy policy at bfl.ai).
Who processes your photos
| Provider | What it does |
|---|---|
| **OpenAI** | Checks photos and results for prohibited content. It also redraws photos for AI remaster and Fix a face. |
| **Topaz Labs** | Sharpens and enhances photos for Enhance. |
| **Black Forest Labs** | Makes the results for Remove, Styles, Try on and Put me in. |
| **Anthropic** | Looks at your photos to choose enhance settings, describe clothes for Try on, find a place for you in Put me in, and check that results look right. |
Each provider processes photos only to provide its part of the tool, under its business API terms, and does not use them to train its models.
Only a random identifier is passed to these providers, for abuse prevention. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple ID.
How long photos are kept
- On your device: results are saved in Enhanced photos until you delete them.
- On our server: each job is deleted once your device downloads the result, or after 24 hours if it is never downloaded. Separately, a copy of the photos you sent and the results is kept for up to 24 hours after the job finishes, so we can check and improve quality. It is then deleted automatically.
- Topaz Labs keeps the photo and the enhanced version for up to 7 days.
- OpenAI may keep data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
- Anthropic deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days.
- Black Forest Labs keeps data for as long as is reasonably necessary to provide its service, as described in its own privacy policy at bfl.ai.
- Server logs (time, IP address, request size, check result) are kept for up to 14 days. Logs never contain photos.
App ID, subscriptions and credits
A random ID is stored in your device's keychain, and may sync through iCloud Keychain, so purchases and credits survive reinstalls. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple ID.
It is used with:
- RevenueCat, for subscription status and credit balances.
- Apple, for purchase history.
**Credits:** Put me in uses two credits, and the other tools use one. A credit is refunded when a tool fails.
Photos access
Frames asks for permission to read the photos and videos you choose, and to save exports and results. It uses this access only when you import, send or save something.
Service providers
- RevenueCat: subscriptions and credits.
- Apple StoreKit: in-app purchases.
- OpenAI, Topaz Labs, Black Forest Labs and Anthropic: the AI photo tools, as described above.
- Cloudflare: secure network delivery. It sees connection details such as your IP address.
Your choices
- Use Frames without an account.
- Use Frames without any of the AI photo tools.
- Deny Photos access (some features won't work).
- Delete results at any time.
- Ask us to delete your subscription and credit data by contacting us.
- Turn off crash reports in iOS Settings.
Children
Frames is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
