Subcommittees meet in separate groups as well as in the main meeting at the coordination of the ICA Interns or Supervising Professor. Below are some quick overviews on each committee, and to learn more, click the button right next to the blurb.
The Environmental Subcommittee focuses on the natural areas around campus, including but not limited to the campus trails and gardens. We develop ways to improve the state of these areas; keeping them clean, removing weeds and invasives, and reviewing the plants native to the area. This subcommittee also works on getting the populace outdoors.
Advocacy Committee focuses on making change outside of our 'pilot' projects. This includes working with other organizations and campus clubs, signing petitions, and putting on events to raise awareness for the need of change.
The Recycling and Waste Subcommittee can also overlap with the Food Subcommittee. This committee focuses on the return and improvement of on campus recycling, composting, and any other way we can think of to decrease the amount of waste from the student body and staff (such as the cafeteria).
The Food Committee overlaps occasionally with the Recycling committee due to the interest in composting. This committee aims to provide healthier, more sustainable meals to students, as well as educate the community on sustainable eating. This committee holds interest in the vegetable gardens produced by a previous year's Sustainable Projects class.
The Energy Committee focuses on better energy consumption through reduced energy usage, reusable energy transitioning, and education. The solar panels that are currently in place on the fieldhouse are in part a product of this committee. This committee aims to review energy consumption and how to better the consumption through small time items such as timed power-strips.
The Education Committee has three main components, the Roadshow, and FPU faculty cooperation. The Roadshow is a team of professors from the FPU faculty (previously Dr. Catherine Koning and Dr. Gerald Burns, and Dr. Fred Rogers) who travel to nearby communities and present information about Climate Change. FPU faculty cooperation stems from the current project of introducing sustainability and climate change to all students at Franklin Pierce regardless of major through the Composition II class. All Events run by the ICA are also considered part of the Education committee although they are often planned in other groups.
