Kennedy Phelps is a dancer, choreographer and teacher in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University class of 2021, and has received a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Dance. While at Western Kennedy has performed in works by Paul Taylor, Yin Yue, Kate Skarpetowska, Jennifer Archibald, Mike Esperanza, BAIRA, Monique Haley, and Brendan Duggan, and was a member of Western Dance Project under the direction of Whitney Moncrief. In 2022 Kennedy worked as a guest artist with Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. In the summer of 2022, Kennedy was featured on the cover of ROC magazine’s Issue 03: Embodied. In 2023 Kennedy became the founder and director of K Company Dance, LLC located in Southfield, MI, where she can continue to share her knowledge and love for dance with the youth of today.
Alex Hlavaty graduated with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Creative Writing from Western Michigan University in May, 2015. He studied in New York City with Gibney Dance and in Montréal with O Vertigo and Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal before joining Eisenhower Dance Detroit. He is currently in his ninth season dancing with EDD, where he has performed and taught master classes nationally and internationally. He has set excerpts of EDD repertory on high school and university students at summer intensives, workshops, and master classes. Mr. Hlavaty is also an avid choreographer and writer. His choreography has been performed in festivals, intensives, and competitions. He has also created two works on EDD’s professional company. His poetry has been published in the literary journal The Laureate, 14th Edition, and he has written for DancePlug online as a resource for dance students, professionals, and educators. He is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) Junior, Senior, and Advanced program, and strives to use PBT fundamentals to bring the best instruction to his students.
Alexa Kruchten is from Chicago, Illinois. She is a proud graduate from Point Park University with a BA in Jazz and a minor in business. While at Point Park, she trained and worked with Kiesha Lalama, Garfield Lemonius, Jason McDole, Matthew Powell, Kiki Lucas, and Kimberly Anderson. She was the president of Point Park's Hip Hop Club, Impulse, where she organized weekly classes and performance opportunities throughout the community. Alexa is currently a member and choreographer of BOOM CRACK! Dance Company, a hip hop company led under the founder and artistic direction of Trae Turner. She also teaches weekly teen and adult classes throughout the city and suburbs. Alexa has a passion for teaching and watching her students grow in their art form!
Theresa Sommers has been dancing for 18 years. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Oakland University. In addition to her degree, Theresa obtained a K-12 teaching certification. During her time at Oakland University, Theresa performed works choreographed by Stephanie Pizzo, Craig Miller, Lauren Anderson, Elizabeth Riga, Christina Tasco, and Mary Murphy. Currently, Theresa Sommers is a dance educator at Farmington High School.
