Course Descriptions

DANCE 1: Beginning Dance (This course fulfills the P.E. or Fine Arts graduation requirement)

Credit: 1.0

This course introduces basic vocabulary and execution of fundamental movements specific to ballet and modern dance. The students will also learn basic anatomy, terminology related to dance, history, composition, music, and production. Participation in a culminating dance performance is required. Prerequisite skills necessary: None

DANCE 2: Adv. Beginning Dance (This course fulfills the P.E. or Fine Arts graduation requirement)

Credit: 1.0

This course is a continuation of the vocabulary and skills learned in Dance 1. Prerequisite skills necessary: Successful completion of Dance 1 or placement audition.

DANCE 3A/3B: Intermediate Dance (This course fulfills the P.E. or Fine Arts graduation requirement)

Credit: 1.0

This course emphasizes intermediate performance skills, academic concepts and composition beyond the beginning levels. Prerequisite skills necessary: Successful completion of Dance 2 or placement audition.

DANCE 4A/4B: Advance Dance (This course fulfills the P.E. or Fine Arts graduation requirement)

Credit: 1.0

Dance 4 is a college-preparatory, performance-based class for skilled dancers. This class engages the student in intense choreographic experiences, performance, and advanced-level technique class. The students participate in State and National festivals, community performances, and formal and informal concerts. (Entry is by audition only)

*Placement Auditions are only necessary for experienced dancers interested in “testing out” of a beginning level dance class into a higher dance level upon entering the dance program. This audition is also required for anyone looking to participate in the Dance Company.
