GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS
Kennedy Phelps is a dancer, choreographer and teacher in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University class of 2021, and has received a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Dance. While at Western Kennedy has performed in works by Paul Taylor, Yin Yue, Kate Skarpetowska, Jennifer Archibald, Mike Esperanza, BAIRA, Monique Haley, and Brendan Duggan, and was a member of Western Dance Project under the direction of Whitney Moncrief. In 2022 Kennedy worked as a guest artist with Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. In the summer of 2022, Kennedy was featured on the cover of ROC magazine’s Issue 03: Embodied. In 2023 Kennedy became the founder and director of K Company Dance, LLC located in Southfield, MI, where she can continue to share her knowledge and love for dance with the youth of today.

Trae Turner is one of the most distinguished and highly regarded Hip Hop/Urban Contemporary instructors in the city of Chicago and the Mid West. He has been apart of the world renowned Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Lou Conte Dance Studio for ten years, as well as Columbia College, Visceral Dance Center, and The University of Chicago Columbia College. In 2013, Art Intercepts voted Trae as the 3rd Best Dance Teacher in Chicago. In addition to teaching, Trae has won numerous awards for performances and choreography such as Dance Chicago’s “Best Choreography Award” in 2012 and “Best Choreography Performance Award” in 2013. In 2008 Trae founded his own Hip Hop company, BOOM CRACK!, which also been awarded top honors at HHI, WOD, Prelude, and NHB. In addition, Trae has done choreography and artist development for numerous recording artists such as Kelis, Phenix Phenom, Andre McCray, Jess Godwin, r&b singer Kam, and teen sensation Yemi Marie. Trae has trained with some of the top choreographers in the world including: Marty Kudelka, Kevin Maher, Wade Robson, and Luam. Over his 13-year career he as opened for Ne-Yo, Rod Stuart, and Janet Jackson to name a few.
Trae prides himself on his hard work and dedication to training young dancers to be positive, hard-working professionals. "Hip Hop is not something you do, its something you live" is a statement that Trae Turner not only believes in, but lives by. It is this kind of open attitude and desire for his craft that makes Trae one of the top instructors and choreographers in the Mid West.
Jaylin Alexis began dance at 3 years old where she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern, lyrical, pointe, hip hop, and Cecchetti ballet. She earned her B.A. degree with high honors in Media & Information with a double minor in Dance and Fiction Filmmaking from Michigan State University. During her time at Michigan State, she was a company member of Orchesis Dance Company where she taught, performed and choreographed for their winter & spring performances. She has learned from dance professionals such as Debbie Allen, Eartha Robinson, Chantel Heath, Chloé Gray, Kylie Vinitski, Tracy Halloran, Brad Willcuts, and more. Jaylin now lives in Los Angeles, California working as a Convention Manager for NUVO Dance Convention and touring the country!
Theresa Sommers has been dancing for 18 years. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Oakland University. In addition to her degree, Theresa obtained a K-12 teaching certification. During her time at Oakland University, Theresa performed works choreographed by Stephanie Pizzo, Craig Miller, Lauren Anderson, Elizabeth Riga, Christina Tasco, and Mary Murphy. Currently, Theresa Sommers is a dance educator at Farmington High School.

"Speak" was choreographed by Sydney Cole and debuted in the 2023 Winter Dance Concert on December 8, 2023. This piece has since been performed in numerous programs, including the Regional High School Dance Festival's Informal Showcase Concert (Norfolk, VA), The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers, and it will be performed on May 18, 2024 at the Michigan Youth Dance Festival (University of Michigan). Congratulations to Sydney Cole, Brooke Crutcher, Cailynn Moore, and Sophia Vella for a successful performance season with "Speak".
