Faith Practices
assignments for December
assignments for December
In class, we discussed how important it is that we read and study the Bible, as well as other ways that we can learn and grow in our faith. Why do we need faith practices (also called spiritual disciplines)? Faith and living faithfully are skills that we develop the more we spend time with them -- just like practicing an instrument or training your body to play a sport. While some parts of Christianity come to us naturally, others are developed through habit. A faith practice is a regularly repeated practice that enriches our attentiveness to the Holy Spirit, cultivates the life and character of Jesus Christ in us, and strengthens our love for God and others.(*) In the Bible, Acts 2:42 tells us of new church members, "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Fellowship, worship, sabbath, Bible study, service, generosity, prayer...these are all important parts of a faithful life, and all can be grown through practice.
The activities below will help to review and continue this discussion. Please complete any two of the three listed assignments before our next class.
