The Sacraments

assignments for February
In class, we discussed the sacraments. A sacrament is a religious ritual -- as you can imagine, the word "sacrament" is related to the word "sacred," or holy, something that is dedicated to God. In the Presbyterian church, we recognize 2 sacraments: Baptism and Communion. Some churches (such as the Catholic church) recognize a different number of sacraments, but we keep only these 2 because they are both things that Jesus has done and things that Jesus has instructed us to do. They are also universal, meaning that everyone is able to participate in them.
Take a look at the infographic below for some more information about Baptism and Communion:
You can discuss more about these sacraments at home with your family. Have your parents tell you the story of your baptism -- or theirs! Discuss the promises made by the parents and by the congregation when a baptism happens. Have they ever been to a church that serves communion in a different way? What do you think about while waiting to be served? Read more about the two sacraments and discuss together.
This month, you do not have an assignment related to the topic. Instead, you'll find below a Worship Report Form. In the next few months, please complete 3 of these forms by attending worship. Use your bulletin to help you; it may also be helpful to take notes during the sermon to look at later, or to view the worship service online on our church YouTube page.
You can choose any 3 worship services -- the only requirement is that they not all be consecutive (ie, do not fill out the form 3 Sundays in a row.) Please return the forms to me as they are completed.
