FOUZIA AWAN

I am an applied macroeconomist and monetary economist, using empirical and theoretical methods to study monetary systems, institutions, and policy. My current work develops theoretical and empirical models of government responses to private digital monies such as stablecoins, including my job market paper, "Co-optation or Ban? A Theory of State Response to Private Digital Money." This interest in institutions and policy extends to my broader work on economic growth, where I examine how institutional quality and external credit — including IMF lending and foreign aid — shape development outcomes. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals.    

At WWU, I teach economics courses, mentor students in advanced economic research, and lead applied economic research for Washington State agencies and private-sector clients. I bring over a decade of experience teaching economics — in person and online — across institutions in the United States and Pakistan.
