Fountain House Gallery and Studio provides an environment where artists living with mental illness can express their creative visions and exhibit their work. Founded by Fountain House in 2000, the storefront Gallery in Manhattan sells original artworks and collaborates with a wide network of artists, curators and cultural institutions. The Studio, located in Long Island City, is a collaborative workspace that furthers the professional practice of our artists. Embracing artists who are emerging or established, trained or self-taught, Fountain House Gallery cultivates artistic growth, makes a vital contribution to the New York arts community, and challenges the stigma surrounding mental illness.

The gallery agrees to pay the artist a commission on all artwork sold for which payment has been received by the gallery in the amount of sixty percent (60%) of the sale price received by the gallery. The framing cost will be included in the sale price and will not be deducted from the 60% the artist receives. The remaining 40% goes back to Fountain House to fund programs that improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people most impacted by mental illness. All artists must sign our Consignment Agreement Form, found under "Forms."
If your sales exceed six hundred dollars ($600) in a calendar year, Fountain House provides you with an IRS Form 1099 and relays this information to the IRS. If you have any concerns about this, especially as it related to disability benefits, please contact us.
The gallery has property casualty insurance to cover an amount of no less than eighty percent (80%) of the proposed sales price of the artwork. While the artwork is in the possession of the gallery, the responsibility for its loss or damage shall rest exclusively with the gallery for a period from submission to ninety (90) days after the close of a show or exhibit for which work has been submitted except as to acts of god or other forces not covered by insurance and are found to have been beyond the control of the gallery. Artwork left in the gallery beyond ninety (90) days after the close of a show shall not be covered by insurance carried by the gallery except in those instances where the gallery specifically requests certain artwork to be retained by the gallery for future exhibits or shows.
