Born as the first son of Sri. Narayana Prabhu and Padmavathi Prabhu on 6th February, 1926, in an upper middle class family in Alleppey, a prominent family name in G.S.B. Community known as Thoppil House. He did his basic education in Alappuzha and grew up to be a well-known journalist. He had a momentous child hood as his parents were part of India's struggle for freedom and gave up foreign goods and surrendered gold ornaments during boycott movement. The family members were ardent followers of Gandhiji and he was 2 years old when Gandhiji visited Alappuzha . He grew up to be man of strong will and determination who always placed social commitment above his primary duties. He was the main driving force behind the setting up of T. D.Medical College, Alappuzha and personally met then Prime Minister, Sri. Jawaharlal Nehru for the same. His presence was inevitable in social, cultural and political spheres in Alappuzha. Although a staunch supporter of right wing in politics he was a great friend of all the leading figures in both right and left wings in the Union as well as State Government. Sri. R. Sankar, Sri. A.K. Antony, Smt. Gowriamma, Sri. T.V. Thomas, Sri. Achutanandan, Sri. O Rajagopal, Sri. K. Karunakaran, Sri. Pattom Thanu Pillai, Sri. Oommen Chandy, to name a few; were his acquaintances. He was a councilor representing Old Thirumala ward in Alleppey Municipality for 18 years. The story of Sri. N.V. Prabhu giving up contesting in the Municipal election as T.V. Thomas was the opponent, is a famous story and because of this T. V.Thomas whole -heartedly supported Prabhu in establishing T. D. Medical college. He coined the term "Snake boat" for chundan vallom in the famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race a name, still in use today. He has worked as reporter and correspondent at The Hindu, The Economic times and at PTI. He started an association of journalists even before the present Press club was formed and was the Vice President of Kerala Union of Working journalists. He was the President, Rama Varma Club, Alappuzha; President, Press club; Managing Trustee, Padma Narayana Prabhu trust etc. He passed away due to old age ailments on February 28th, 2008 leaving behind a great legacy the T. D. Medical College, Alappuzha which stands with all proud and glory, still today which he fondly hailed as his fifth child.
