Comprehension means understanding and interpreting what one is reading. Comprehension is the area of reading that brings all of the other areas together (Kuder, 2018).
Comprehension includes:
Literal - understanding the written meaning of a passage
Inferential - ability to make inferencesÂ
Evaluative - "beyond the text" or "big picture" comprehension
How to practice comprehension during reading:
Repeating something in one's own words
Visualizing
Making connections
Making predictions
Reviewing main elements in the story (characters, setting, plot, etc.)
