The purpose of this document is to outline the expected conduct, responsibilities, and operational procedures for all personnel assigned to the Research Division of the SCP Foundation. All staff, from interns to senior-level researchers, are required to uphold the Foundation’s mission: Secure, Contain, Protect, through safe, ethical, and structured scientific study of anomalous phenomena.
General Conduct Guidelines
Maintain Professionalism at All Times
Researchers are expected to conduct themselves with the highest degree of professionalism, responsibility, and discretion—especially when interacting with anomalies, D-Class personnel, or other departments.Follow the Chain of Command
Respect all ranks and positions above your own. Orders from senior research staff or site administration are to be followed unless they pose a direct and immediate risk to personnel safety or containment.Prioritize Safety
Under no circumstance should an experiment or test be conducted without full safety protocols in place. All procedures must be logged, approved, and supervised as appropriate to your clearance level.Respect Clearance Boundaries
Do not access, request, or attempt to interact with SCPs or documents beyond your clearance level. Unauthorized access is a breach of Foundation protocol and may result in disciplinary action or termination.Ensure Ethical Compliance
Research involving sentient or sapient SCPs, D-Class subjects, or cognitohazards must be approved by the Ethics Committee and adhere strictly to moral and procedural standards set by Foundation policy.
Operational Responsibilities
Daily Logs: All researchers are to maintain accurate, up-to-date logs of observations, testing results, and anomaly behaviors.
Collaboration: Work closely with Containment, Medical, Security, and Tactical units to ensure multi-departmental awareness during tests.
Mentorship: Senior staff should provide guidance and knowledge to junior personnel to maintain a well-trained and informed division.
Anomaly Awareness: Staff must be familiar with the SCPs located at their assigned site and be briefed on updates, containment breaches, and new discoveries.
Research Protocol Reminders
No Unauthorized Testing: All testing must be scheduled and cleared by authorized personnel. Improvised or impulsive experiments are strictly forbidden.
Use of D-Class: When using D-Class for experimentation, all proper documentation, escort, and termination procedures (if applicable) must be observed.
Data Security: Any findings, research notes, or anomalous materials are to be kept within secure Foundation systems and may not be shared externally under any circumstances.
In Case of Breach: Follow your site's Breach Contingency Protocol immediately. Do not attempt to secure or engage with SCPs without express orders.
Final Notes
The Foundation’s success hinges on the integrity and discipline of its personnel. Research is a vital arm of the organization and must be conducted with unwavering commitment to safety, secrecy, and scientific excellence. Negligence, misconduct, or unauthorized activity will result in disciplinary action up to and including reassignment, demotion, or termination.
Remember:
Knowledge is power. Power must be contained.
