How to use Trees App
Tree height measurement
This App is designed for tree height measurement. Before starting the tree height measurement, please prepare distance measurement tools such as measuring tape or laser range finder.
Simple steps of tree height measurement
1 Measure the distance between surveyor and target tree
2 Input horizontal distance
3 Focus on the top/bottom of tree, and tap "SET" button
4 Tap "CAL" button for tree height calculation
Install from Play Store
How to use
1 Installation
Camera does not work just after the installation. Please finish App at once, and restart again.
Trees app is installable to API level 23 (ver 6, Marshmallow) or later version of Android smartphone.
2 Magnetic compass
Magnetic compass may be defected by strong magnetized field such as PC, Car, and show the different direction. Before measure the magnetic direction properly, please shaffle your phone as figure of eight (8).
3 Tree height
(1) Input horizontal distance.
(2) Target tree top with center cross marker, and tap the "SET" button of tree top.
(3) Target tree bottom with center cross marker, and tap the "SET" button of tree bottom.
(4) Tap "CAL" button for tree height calculation.
* Any time you can re-tap the "SET" and "CAL" button.
** Horizontal distance should be measured by other tools such as measuring tape or laser range finder.
4 Tree species
Tree species data is input manually, or selected from spinner list. Name list is stored in "00_Species_Data.txt" file in "ForestInventory" folder. You can edit it freely.
5 Diameter
Diameter should be measured manually by measuring tape or caliper.
6 Record
When you tap "RECORD" button, each tree data is stored into "YYYYMMDD_data.csv" in "ForestInventory" folder.
* Magnetic direction and GPS data is recorded when "SET" button of tree bottom is tapped.
