Safety remains a significant concern and we are currently working with the City, the school district, developers, homeowners and other stakeholders to address key problem areas as well as provide input on projects contemplated in the City's Transportation System Plan (TSP) (available here). An overlay is additional regulation that adds to or modifies the existing code and serves as decision‐making criteria for development. The process includes an assessment of neighborhood issues, setting neighborhood objectives for the overlay, looking at alternatives, and conducting neighborhood outreach to determine the preferred approach. Several neighborhoods have completed this process, including Glenmorrie, Lake Grove and Evergreen neighborhoods and we are considering a similar path (more here).
The FHNA BoD review and respond in writing to tree removal applications, attends pre-development conferences for all proposed developments and provides feedback as appropriate.

The Lake Oswego Sustainability Network recently took a long look at healthy yards and ways of using electric tools versus gas-powered equipment. Bans of gas-powered leaf blowers and other equipment have been talked about in city governments for the last several months so it's a good time to educate yourself.
