He surpassed second-placed Ronaldo's total of 62 goals with a hat-trick in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Peru on 14 October 2020, and claimed the top spot from Pelé after recording his 78th and 79th goals in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Bolivia on 9 September 2023.
