Parking & Stopping

Due to an error with the Firestone Traffic Revision Act, it is recommended to only park, stop, or wait in areas specifically designated for parking, stopping, or waiting.

'Parking' is either:

  • Stopping a motor vehicle and exiting.
  • Stopping a motor vehicle for ≥1 minute.

'Parking a bicycle' is either:

  • Stopping a bicycle and dismounting.
  • Stopping a bicycle for ≥1 minute.

'Stopping' is:

  • Stopping a motor vehicle.

Stopping is NOT waiting!

'Waiting' is waiting for:

  • A red traffic light.
  • A stop sign.
  • A yield sign.
  • A stopped vehicle.
  • The purpose of avoiding a collision.
  • The right-of-way at an intersection.
  • The orders of authorized personnel (DOT, LEOs, etc.)
  • Any other road situation that requires it.

Illegal Parking cannot be a charge alongside Illegal Stopping unless it is for two separate occasions.

  • The maximum fine for illegal parking is $120.
  • The maximum fine for illegal stopping is $100.
  • The maximum fine for illegal waiting is $40.
