Sean trained in C. elegans genetics at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. For his PhD with Mario de Bono, he studied genes and pathways that function in the nervous system to control C. elegans behavior. As a postdoc in Shankar Balasubramanian's lab, he was awarded a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship to investigate the functions of alternative DNA structures in 3D genome function. He is now a Lecturer in Data Science & Genomics in the Clinical and Biomedical Sciences Department at the University of Exeter.Â
Syed Marwan graduated from the University of Manchester for his Bachelor's and Master's, gaining experience in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, and Systems Biology. His research experience includes transcriptomic analysis of wdr-5(-) and rbbp-5(-) C. elegans, differential abundance analysis of synovial fibroblast cells from rheumatoid arthritis patients, and simulating H3K9 methylation dynamics in R. He is now conducting his PhD at the University of Exeter under the supervision of Sean Flynn to study mechanisms of enhancer function in neuronal cells.
Oliver studied Genetics at Trinity College Dublin. For his undergraduate thesis, he investigated transcriptional programs underlying Drosophila Melanogaster motor neuron system development, creating a novel database of overrepresented regulators in embryonic dorsal motoneuron development. He is now undertaking a PhD with Dr. Sean Flynn at the University of Exeter.
