"I really enjoyed the classroom management clinic."
"Character development, recruitment and retention ideas / percussion considerations / small group activities. "
"The life lesson stories from Ian, Jim, and Mike. "
"Oh my word, EVERYTHING! I especially loved the focus on basics of every instrument. I was reminded and learned a great deal from all of the instructors. I also loved seeing the various ways each of you led rehearsal/warm ups. It provided me with creative ideas and resources. Overall everything was inspiring, applicable to my setting and enjoyable to learn!"
"Teaching concepts rather than the music." "
"Learning how to teach ALL instruments "
"Seeing great teachers just doing their thing and playing in the ensemble in front of them. So many fantastic ideas coming from the presenters and the other directors in the ensemble. "
"Planning, Rehearsal Techniques, and Character education (self, and student) "
"I found the percussion section with Mr. Blum and the different warm ups by the clinicians the most effective. I also LOVED how Mr. Matthews and Mr. Schwindt talked about how to make your kids accountable for making music."
"Individual instrument pedagogy - opportunity to discuss with directors about the performance on and teaching of their principle instrument. Also enjoyed Ian's rehearsal of the La Plante piece - as a new(ish) high school director it opened my eyes to a lot. Mike's discussion regarding retention and recruitment brought a lot of great points. Jim's discussions about matching and blending (it's not a flute and a clarinet - it's a hybrid of both) help remind me about teaching listening and matching. Appreciate the longer length of the workshop - more time to discuss with peers, reflect, and rest. "
