The Pile
The Pile
About
“The Pile” is a conceptual dance performance rooted in the meeting point between dancer, material and the self. Exploring thematics and concerns regarding overconsumption of textiles and showcasing our complex, and often contradictory, relationship to material waste. The performance includes an scenographic landscape created by an excessive amount of abandoned clothes and textile, that remoulds during the performance.
Through choreographic interaction with the textile, the work investigates how the physical and physiological body copes with the ever consuming and inclosing environment. And how we are shaped by the materials and media we consume.
The work draws inspiration from research in critical fashion studies, as well as experiences and reflections from interviews during my creation process.
The performance combines improvisation, physical research, and visual anchor points. Aiming to create a sensorial, critical, and emotional experience that makes visible the hidden aftermath of our consumer habits.
By bringing the discarded clothes into the center of the stage, the performance reclaims the material and puts it in a different light. Showing the often hidden absurdity and magnitude of our wasteful behaviour. And asks the question whether movement can open a space for greater reflection on the matter.
