Across the nation, youth sports are struggling to find officials. Without you, the game is missing something. Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for impacting the lives of our kids.

There are 2 paths adults can take. If you're umping for more than one Little League and or want to ump tournaments you may want to choose Path 2. Path 2 saves you the trouble of having to do Path 1 for each and every league where you officiate. If you do Path 2, you don't have to do Path 1.

Age Division Permitted to Umpire
13 Minors & Majors
14 Minors, Majors, & Intermediate
17+ Minors, Majors, Intermediate, JRs, & Seniors
Umpire in Chief approval is required before any new ump is permitted to umpire at home plate.
It's recommended that youth umps behind the plate wear a hockey style mask.
Adult umpire accompaniment or the presence of a Game Coordinator will always be required for minors.
While we are a volunteer run organization, we are not necessarily volunteer umpires. We appreciate any volunteer help we can get, but the reality is that we need to do what's right by our umpires to insure coverage.
COMPENSATION: $60/game to plate ump and $20 to do the bases. Payment will be issued either weekly via Venmo or at the end of the season via check depending on the preference of the ump. Volunteer hours are also welcome and count toward the state requirements for Student Service-Learning (SSL). Payouts above and beyond $750/yr in total will result in a 1099 and potential tax implication for the recipient.
Games at Staley Stadium and Max Kehne have a full concession stand. At the conclusion of the game you will receive a free hot dog and small water. At the start of the game or as needed the concession stand will give you 2 water bottles.
Grove has a concession stand, but it's not in use. Walnut Ridge and Loats do not have concessions. McCurdy has a concession stand, but we don't have access to it. Please bring as much food and water as you need to those fields.
Please refer to Frederick Little League's Volunteer Policy for current information. As of the Spring 2026 season, the following points may be awarded for umpiring.
2 points if your Intermediate or Juniors player completes umpire training and umps 1 game
1 point per game at the Majors division and below
2 points per game for divisions above Majors

We provide a hat and we will lend you a shirt, leg guards, chest protection, ball bag, plate brush, clicker, and a mask. Youth umps behind the plate should wear a hockey style mask.
You'll need to have your own gray or black pants and males should have their own cup.
Thank you for your dedication to Frederick Little League and our community. Our umpiring team is extremely important to us. While most games go off without a hitch, if you do this long enough you will run into the vitriol of a fan or unsportsmanlike conduct. Section 8 of our Bylaws outlines our Code of Conduct Policy.
Should you need assistance or to escalate anything for any reason, please contact:
Gerry Stephens, Umpire in Chief (UIC)

If Gerry can't be reached, call Tim (FLL President) at 717-372-7321. If neither are available, try Andrew at 240-285-6077.
In order to protect all parties involved, we will not share* umpire contact information with our managers, coaches, or families and we will not share their information with our umps. The UIC will be the intermediary.
*those umps that hold other positions in the league may have their contact information shared for them to perform in that capacity.
