ADAM BASSAK

Director

Adam Bassak is the Director of Bands at Baldwin-Woodville High School where he conducts the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Pit Ensemble, Winter Drumline, and numerous chamber groups. His ensembles have consistently received top ratings. The Marching Blackhawks have finished in the top three bands at state each year, including five state championships. The Winter Drumline has competed at WGI Percussion World Championships multiple times, and last year he was proud to bring Fleurish Winds to Dayton, OH for WGI Winds World Championships, in their inaugural year. Prior to teaching at Baldwin-Woodville Mr. Bassak held a similar position at the Royall School District in Elroy, Wisconsin.

A native of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and a certificate in Fine Arts Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He also has continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, and received his Masters in Educational Leadership through Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Mr. Bassak is an active clinician for both band and show choir throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, the a member of the WSMA State Marching Band Committee, and on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Percussion Association. His professional affiliations include the Wisconsin Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education and the National Band Association.


Ben Helmrick

Assistant Director

Ben Helmrick is thrilled to be joining the Fleurish Winds staff. Ben is a graduate of River Falls High School, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for his degree in Music Education. He spent three years teaching 5-8 band in the Oconomowoc district in southeastern WI, and currently teaches 6-8 band in the St. Croix Central School District. Ben marched with the Madison Scouts for two years and is currently Brass Co-Caption Head with River City Rhythm. He remains active in the fall by working with several high school marching groups and serving as a judge for shows in MN and WI.

Michael Marcantano

Program Coordinator / Artistic Director

Michael Marcantano hails from Sarasota, Florida, where he started his passion for the marching arts 19 years ago at Booker Visual Performing Arts HS. Mikey has performed with The Alliance of Miami World Guard and with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.

Michael is an active choreographer, designer and adjudicator in the pageantry arts. Michael has instructed numerous programs all over the country throughout his career including Paradigm World Class Winterguard, Collage IA Winterguard, and Emanon World Winterguard plus many others. Michael is currently the Program Coordinator/Designer for, Baldwin Woodville HS and Chantilly HS. Michael has also choreographed for the theater and enjoys freelance graphic design, designing digital flags and tarps.

Micheal has adjudicated throughout the Midwest, focusing on Ensemble Analysis, Visual Effect, and Colorguard. Michael was a restaurant General Manager, specializing in the Chicago Startup scene. Michael now resides in Chantilly VA with his partner Brad Tilley.

Brad TillEY

Artistic Director

Brad is a Senior Digital Product Manager for the USA Today Network (Gannett), driving digital news experiences from concept to design to execution. He holds a BS in International Business from Appalachian State University and an MBA from NC State University. He has performed with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, the STUDY World Winterguard, and Chicago ROTC.

As an instructor, he has worked with numerous groups in the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, including Plainfield Winterguard (IL), Fidele Vogelsanger Drum Corps (Germany) and Emanon Winterguard. He and his partner, Mike, live in Virginia with their cat children, Bentley and Jag. Brad is excited to be back with Fleurish for their second season.

DANN PETERSON

FPA Programs Director

Dann has been continuously involved in the marching arts since the age of 12 as a performer, educator and administrator. In his current role he now works to expand the performance, educational and transformative opportunities for young students across the various programs offered by Forward Performing Arts.

Much of his worldview can be attributed to his travels throughout 43 countries. The people he has encountered and the variety of experiences have taught him the value of perspective, community and equifinality. He earned a bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Oregon.

In 2007 he moved back to his hometown of Madison Wisconsin where he lives with his wife Mindy and two sons Merritt & Sorren.

JOSH PIER

Visual

Josh has been involved in the marching arts for over 17 years. He began playing the tuba in high school which led him to perform with the Pasadena City College Honor Band in the Rose Parade from 2000 to 2002. He then went on to march with the Santa Clara Vanguard from 2004 to 2006, earning the Golden Foot award for visual excellence in 2006.


Since aging out, Josh has worked with many different organizations as a fall visual instructor. These groups include El Dorado HS, La Mirada HS, La Serna HS, Trabuco Hills HS, Arroyo HS, Crescenta Valley HS, Pacific Palisades HS, and Oak Grove HS, all located in California. Since recently moving to Madison, Wisconsin, he now works with Waukesha North HS.


Josh jumped into drill design in 2014 and has worked with high schools from around the country. He designs both competitive and half-time show style programs.


Josh has also worked with indoor percussion ensembles at Whittier HS, Glendora HS, La Habra HS as both a movement instructor and a visual designer. He is currently the visual designer at La Serna HS and Rancho Starbuck Intermediate School for their indoor programs.


In the Drum Corps world, Josh was a visual tech for the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets in 2009 then he worked with Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps from 2010 to 2012. From there he began his tenure at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps a visual tech from 2012 to 2014, and has been serving as the Visual Caption Head since 2015.

Sean Conway

Music

Sean is Director of Bands at St. Croix Central High School in Hammond, WI, where he has been since 2017, and is currently a trumpet technician for the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps. Previously, he worked for six years as a trumpet technician for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps after marching there from 2009 to 2012, and spent two years as an assistant director at Waukesha North High School and Butler Middle School in Waukesha, WI.


Originally from Rosemount, MN, Sean earned his bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. There he performed with the university’s Wind Symphony, Concert Choir, Symphony Orchestra, and served as drum major for the Blugold Marching Band. Sean is excited to for this second season of Fleurish Winds!
