Frequently Asked Questions

When does Fleurish rehearse?

Fleurish will rehearse on the weekends, primarily Saturdays and Sundays. Rehearsals will be in the western Wisconsin area. Auditions will be held at St. Croix Central High School. Rehearsals will consist of body warm-ups, movement/conditioning, sectionals, and ensemble. Because we will only see you on the weekends, members should plan to dedicate practice time during the week.

How much does it cost to participate?

The goal of Fleurish is to provide a great educational experience in the marching arts. To do this, we want to provide an infrastructure that prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of the marching members. Every effort will be made to reduce costs for the group. Members who receive a contract will also receive a dues schedule. There will be opportunities to fundraise and lower dues for individual members.

How will open house work?

We will begin with body warm ups and stretching. We will work on marching and body basics, then the musicians will move to work on music tryouts. The color guard will move to flag and weapon rehearsal. Throughout the day, our staff will evaluate your playing/spinning ability, musicianship, marching/movement, and general approach/attitude. Musicians should prepare to play an individual passage.

On Sunday, we will repeat the process and end by 4pm. We will conclude the weekend with show and tell.

The registration packet will have detailed information by section, including passages the ensemble will workshop.

Is there a fee?

Yes, every potential member must register on MadisonGear.com and pay the $25 fee to be considered for the 2018 season. The $25 will also count toward 2018 dues. There is a registration packet by section that will give you more information.

What if I can't make the open house?

If you are unable to attend the Madison Scouts camp at UW Eau Claire on November 11, our audition at St. Croix Central High School on November 18-19 or Callbacks/Auditions on November 26, please contact Adam Bassak, Director, at adam@fleurishwinds.org. We will accept video submissions. However, please note that rehearsals/performances will be several weekends in November and December and pretty much every weekend from January through April. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is mandatory.

What if I don't have a car/transportation to Auditions?

The staff will be reaching out to you prior to auditions. Please communicate with them any travel requirements you have. We will work to help you find a ride/carpool to auditions. If you are able to help by offering a ride to rehearsal, please also let us know!

What should I wear to Auditions?

Please wear form-fitting, comfortable black/dark attire. Please also bring layered clothing (sweats, hoodies, loose-fitting clothes) to stay warm. All members should have athletic footwear that is comfortable and supportive. Color guard members auditioning on weapon should bring gloves.

How old do I have to be to participate?

Technically, Winds is an all-age division. We feel that our competitive level will be most suited to students in high school or college. If you've recently graduated, you're certainly more than welcome to march. Fleurish will operate as a competitive Independent A Winds ensemble.
