Dr. Serra Ucer Ozgurel and Dr. Fleet attended the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research Meeting in Seattle, WA. Dr. Fleet presented a poster on the impact of 1,25(OH)2 D on the transcriptome of the osteocyte-like cell line, MLO-A5. Dr. Ucer Ozgurel reported how the distribution of mineral in cortical bone is differentially distributed using a uCT-based bone mineral density distribution methods she developed.

Our group published two papers this month. First, we reported on how deletion of the Cyp24a1 gene in the intestine or globally in adults alters vitamin D metabolism and tissue gene expression (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40096918/ ). In addition, we reported how 1,25(OH)2 D regulates the transcriptome of human duodenal and colonic organoids (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40535337/ )

Dr. Fleet attended the 26th Vitamin D Workshop in Montreal Canada. He gave a platform talk on the impact of vitamin D in bone mineralization. He also brought two posters. One reported the impact of 1,25(OH)2 D on the transcriptome of the osteocyte cell line, MLO-A5. The other was a preliminary report on the impact of aging on the induction of intestinal genes by 1,25(OH)2 D in mice.

Dr. Fleet and Yujin Lee (a 4th year graduate student) attended the American Association for Cancer Research in Chicago, IL. Yujin presented her research using spatial transcriptomics to identify the molecular changes that occur in the colon of mice due to non-transforming oncogene mutations. This work seeks to identify the earliest events in colon carcinogenesis.

We have a new review out on the biological difference between supplementing with vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. It's in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
